Xbox 360 today announced that it had achieved console sales to 10 million consumers across Europe, the Middle East and Africa in just four years. Reaching the landmark number has meant that Xbox 360 is the only console to achieve year-on-year growth across the region this year. The launch next week of instant streaming HD movies, Facebook, Twitter and Last.fm on Tuesday 17th November 2009 transforms Xbox LIVE into the largest social network connected to the TV and strengthens Xbox 360’s already impressive line up of interactive entertainment services.

VGChartz preliminary day one figures puts the sales to date (including the midnight launches) at over 7 million copies worldwide across Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. Around 55% of sales are on Xbox 360, 33% on PS3 and the remaining 12% on PC. In terms of regional breakdowns, over 4.2 million units were sold in the Americas (3.7 million USA), 1.2 million in the UK and 350,000 each in France and Germany.

EA has said it is cutting 1,500 jobs.
The cuts, in addition to the 1,100 jobs already shed this year, came even as EA bought social gaming company Playfish for $275m (£170m).

EA also reported a net loss of $391m in the third quarter, compared with a loss of $310m in the same period last year.

The job losses are part of a restructuring plan to shift the company’s focus to blockbuster games.

The layoffs are expected to save about $100m a year, EA said.

Thousands of gamers may have been cut off from Microsoft’s online gaming service Xbox Live for modifying their consoles to play pirated games.
Online reports suggest that as many as 600,000 gamers may have been affected.
Microsoft confirmed that it had banned a “small percentage” of the 20 million Xbox Live users.
Microsoft said that modifying an Xbox 360 console “violates” the services “terms of use” and would result in a player being disconnected.
