Eternal Sonata

It took me a while to get into Eternal Sonata as I had started to play it at first and got to a cut scene where it started to tell me about Chopin’s actual, real life. This was so incredibly boring to me, possibly because I already knew all this information, that I set the game down and had done with it. But then I decided to give it another try; I am happy that I did. Eternal Sonata has always been beautifully done. …

Microsoft kills Milo

Development on Lionhead’s ambitious Kinect title Project Milo (aka Milo & Kate) has been cancelled.
The rumour has it that the plug was pulled on the child-interaction game yesterday, leading to the loss of 19 contractors.
Reportedly, the title’s tech will be pooled into a future Fable title.
This is not the first assertion that Milo & Kate would not make it to market, with Microsoft’s Aaron Greenberg claiming it was merely a tech demo this June.
Lionhead boss Peter Molyneux has repeatedly denied such claims in the past. However, neither he or …

Alien Breed Impact PS3 review

Team17 Software, creators of the iconic Worms series, brings you a new downloadable title for the PS3. Alien Breed: Impact is a remaking of an old series, also called Alien Breed.
The original Alien Breed was a top-down science fiction shooter for computer that was released in 1991. Alien Breed: Revolution was released to the XBox360 last year, but Alien Breed: Impact is not a carbon copy of that game. The newly released Alien Breed: Impact is also intended to be a sequel to the original, popular game–but some improvements …

Daily Mail: Are games as addictive as Heroin?

The Daily Mail has published an extensive – and rather odd – feature asking whether video games are as ‘addictive as heroin’.
The article uses as its basis the sad story of a 33-year-old UK woman who allowed her dogs to starve to death.
The woman reportedly blamed her obsession with an MMO – to which her lawyer said she had become ‘addicted’ – for the poor canines’ plight.
However, it was discovered in her subsequent court case that she had been suffering from severe depression, following the death of her husband.
Tom Rawstorne’s …

Fallout New Vegas guide blog part 2

Adventuring across the sandstorms of the Ivanpah Dry Lake, or the rocky terrain around Bitter Springs can be arduous. Partly due to the vicious critters — ranging from packs of Coyotes to lolloping Alpha Deathclaws – but mainly because you need to keep a constant check on your health, especially in Hardcore Mode. Although it’s certainly possible to live off Stimpaks on the easier difficulty modes, real wasteland explorers expend their Tag Skill Points on Survival, a brand-new Skill that enables you to enjoy the natural (and mutated) wonders of …

Fallout New Vegas Guide Blog part 1

Since I was lucky enough to be asked back to write the official guide for Fallout: New Vegas, I’ve been working constantly since late May, clocking in around 1,200 man-hours, and trying to trim my word count to within the 300,000 range. During the course of these blog posts, I aim to list some of the guide’s most helpful aspects, so you can see the differences this new adventure brings. To begin, here’s an overview of the Training chapter of the guide:
The Training section is familiar to those who …
