Ready, Steady, RPG!

Tonight on 360gamercast, we’re going to be looking at what makes a great Role Playing Game. Worked on by some of the best cooks in the business, below is the minimum that is required to have a huge success.

1) First, is the emotional heartbreaking story. Normally someone is about to take over the world, and everyone is about to be destroyed. Loved ones will be murdered, and love interests will sacrifice themselves. No RPG will be complete without a real tear jerker.

FFVII

2) Next up is the orphan. Much like how salt comes with pepper, a mystical adventure must come with an orphan. Normally this orphan has had a hard time growing up and still has that void only one special person can fill. Will this character find that special person during his or her journey? We think so!

Star Ocean

3) Third is the guy. But not just any guy. This girl, I mean guy, needs to look ever so feminine. And by ever so, I mean a lot. Nothing says JRPG like a female male, and without it, the game is doomed to fail.

Tales of V

4) Next up is the big bad boss. The big bad boss must be intelligent, powerful and reserved. Normally sat on some sort of alien throne, this monster must have vast amounts of technology and the odd black magic. Finally no real boss will be complete without multiple lives. Defeating the boss once is not enough for us hardcore kids. No, we need to beat the jerk at least once per disc! Four times should be about right…

FFVIII

5) Next is quite a simple requirement, but crucial. There must be village people! These folk must constantly reminisce about old times. They need to tell you this story every time you ask, without fail! It never gets old… For bonus points there must also be an old man or woman who has lost a cat.

FFXIII

6) Nearing a close, one of the final necessities is the child. There must, and I can’t stress that word enough, MUST, be a young child with unlocked crazy potential. ‘Kay?

Kay'?

7) And finally to wrap up our recipe, we need a troubled hero who is hard as nails who locks their emotions deep within. Normally a former army member or run away, the hero will go on an enlightening journey helping them understand themselves. Memory loss for the character is also optional.

Lost odyssey

And there you have it. Next time before you buy an RPG, check the list! You wont be disappointed.
